SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, Va. — On Wednesday, June 26, contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) completed construction and reopened the eastbound lane to traffic on Route 58 (Southampton Parkway) east between Route 35 (Meherrin Road) and Route 58 Business (Jerusalem Road) in Southampton County ahead of schedule.
The bridge rehabilitation project started in June 2023. It included repairs of the expansion joints, pier and abutment, concrete beams and beam ends, roadway surface, and other activities needed to extend the lifespan of the bridge and roadway.
VDOT awarded the $5.01 million project contract to Crowder Construction Company, LLC in March 2023 with an original completion date in fall 2024.
