NORTH CHESTERFIELD – Douglas Wayne Simms passed away July 24, 2024 at the age of 75. Douglas, raised in Sedley, was the son of the late Marvin and Helen Simms.
Douglas, also known as “Snatch” was a 1967 graduate of Southampton High School and received his degree in accounting/automation from Smithdeal-Massey Business College.
Douglas served in the Army and spent most of his time in Korea. He worked in the computer department at Richf
ood in Richmond for 30 years. During that time, he continued taking different classes at the University of Richmond and J. Sargeant Reynolds in Richmond. He also received his real estate license and sold real estate part time. After retiring from Richfood, he worked in construction with his friend, Dickie Zinn, for five years. Late in life, Douglas worked at Home Depot part time for 16 years.
During his high school years, he played football, gymnastics and ran track. Douglas was an avid lover of tennis and softball and played for many years. Throughout his life, he was an accomplished, competitive athlete, receiving many awards which he proudly kept displayed.
Left to cherish his memory is his brother, Edward and wife, Carol; his niece, Amy Woolard and husband, Lonnie and great nieces and nephews, Alexandria (James), Nicholas, Logan, Madilynn, Kinzley and Preslee.
A celebration of life service, conducted by Rev. Hoyle Green, will be held at Wright Funeral Home in Franklin on Saturday, Aug. 3, at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends after the service.
