FRANKLIN – Donald Russell Bridgers, 82, passed away Aug. 19, 2024 in Courtland Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Russell Judson Bridgers and Vera Lee Collier Bridgers. He was also predeceased by his son, Jonathan D

avid Bridgers.

Donald was a graduate of Franklin High School and a former Virginia National Guardsman. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 44 years and was a longtime local photographer.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 59 years, Dollie Sopko Bridgers; his daughter, Jennifer B. Whitley and her husband, Jason; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Senetha Sopko.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23 in Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Greensville Memorial Cemetery in Emporia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to any favorite charity.
