FRANKLIN – Evelyn C. Cutchins, 82, passed away peacefully with family by her side at Southampton Medical Center Skilled Care Unit on hospice care on Sept. 6, 2024.

aughter of the late Arlandon Barham Cutchins and Elsie Story Cutchins. She was also predeceased by all of her siblings, including Betty C. Cook, Mildred C. Stieh, Eunice C. Harrell, Frances C. Mumford, Lynda C. Daniels, Gilbert Cuchins and Wallace Cutchins.

Evelyn graduated from Southampton High School. She was employed several places in her life including being a local telephone operator, sales clerk at Jones Drug Company and operating her own in home day care, which she loved doing while raising her own children. She then went on to work with her husband at a local agriculture business, Carolina Eastern Farm Center, as a secretary until her retirement.

She was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church where she served in various departments including the Sunday school department, children’s department, as well as youth department. She was also a member of the church choir.

Left to cherish her memory is her devoted husband of 59 years, Leroy Cutchins; son, Brian K. Cutchins and his wife, Stacie; daughter, Tammy C. Scott and her husband, Willis; grandchildren, Rhea and Noah Cutchins and Chris (Katie) and Luke Scott; great-grandchildren, Abel and Ella Scott; her special companion, her doll “Buddy”; and numerous nieces, nephew and brothers- and sisters-in-law.

The family would like to thank the staff at East Pavilion for their excellent and compassionate care given to Evelyn over the past three years. Also a special thanks to Bon Secour Medical Center ER and med surg nursing floor for their care during her most recent illness and a special thanks to Gentiva Hospice and the staff on the skilled care unit for the wonderful care, not only she, but the whole family received during her final days.

A funeral service will be held at Black Creek Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8 with Pastor Richard Inman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at Wright Funeral Home on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 6 – 8 p.m. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Black Creek Baptist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
