Franklin High School’s varsity football team shut out visiting Arcadia High School 38-0 on Friday evening, Oct. 4, which was Pink Out Night in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Broncos had an outstanding night on the gridiron as they scored in a variety of ways — on the ground, in the air and with an interception.

Senior running back/defensive back Travis Mabry opened the scoring in the first quarter on a one-yard touchdown run. He also intercepted a Firebirds pass in the fourth quarter to score.

Broncos senior quarterback Altavis Turner called his own number in the second quarter to score on a run play. Also in the second quarter, he connected on a touchdown pass to junior tight end DeMoreon Smith.

Sophomore running back Lamaj Boone added six points in the third quarter on a run.

Franklin’s last score of the game came in the final quarter on a run by senior wide receiver Kemonte Flythe.

Broncos Head Coach Lamont Hill said after the game, “Once again I want to give glory to God. We came out and executed the way that we know how we are supposed to do it. We are walking out of here tonight with no injuries. We had an all-around solid performance with all three phases of the game. As a coach, that is all that I can ask. I couldn’t be more proud of these guys tonight.”

He noted that Franklin battled some adversity at the beginning of the season.

“We started out 0-3, and here we are now 2-3,” he said. “With this momentum we will be going back into the district next week as we will be playing the Surry Cougars. We are looking forward to next week and the rest of the season.”

The Broncos (2-3) will host Surry County High School (1-5) on Friday, Oct. 11, for their homecoming game. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
