Following an unbelievable run by the Rock Church School varsity soccer team last year in which it went 16-0 and won the 1A Mid-Atlantic Christian Athletic Association (MACAA) Dual State Championship, clearly the expectations were nothing but high headed into this season. And the Rock Lions have not disappointed so far.

Midway through the season, they have managed to remain undefeated, achieving a stellar 7-0 record.

In their most recent contest against the Gateway Christian Crusaders, the Rock Lions again put their flawless record on the line. The Lions came out hot with a pair of goals by Dedrick Blow and Benny Dillon, each assisting on the other’s goals, allowing RCS to take a demanding 2-0 lead.

However, Gateway answered back with a goal of its own, resulting in a 2-1 score at halftime.

Coming out of the half, Rock was the first to score. Dillon floated a beautiful pass across the middle, and Reese Pittman cleaned it up with a strong header, making the score 3-1.

Then Reese’s older brother, Will Pittman, put a goal in, extending Rock’s lead to three and potentially icing the game.

But Gateway Christian did not give up, quickly rattling off two goals with 15 minutes to go, cutting Rock’s lead to just one headed into the final minutes of the game.

Though Gateway seemed to have all the momentum, Rock answered back with another goal from Will Pittman, assisted by Dillon, with about five minutes left in the game.

The Lions walked away with the “W,” winning 5-3.

Will Pittman finished the game with two goals, and Dillon scored a goal of his own to go with an incredible four assists.

This was a big win for the Lions, as this game was a test for the coming games and the 1A MACAA Tournament later this month.

If the Rock Lions beat New Life Academy and Bethel of Hampton, Rock will be named 1A North Conference Regular Season Champion for the fourth time in a row.

The Lions are excited about proudly representing God, Rock Church School, their families and the Franklin community.
