VIRGINIA BEACH – On Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024 the world lost one of its kindest and most gentle souls. Surrounded by family, Randall David Betz, 43, passed away in Virginia Beach after a short illness. Deeply loved by his family, friends and neighbors, David always reached out to help people

in need. He was a constant, steadfast caretaker for his entire family. A cousin described David as “a gentle bear, always going along with the flow, like you could go up to him and give him a hug.” David was born on Dec. 19, 1980 in Suffolk, Virginia.

He is cherished in memory by his parents, Randy Betz and Barbara Mease; his sister, Meghan Betz Ashburn and her husband, Tremain; nephews, David (D.J.), Tyimaru (Ty), Dominic and Julian; many uncles, aunts, cousins and godparents, Steve and Cheryl Colecchi. A 1999 graduate of Franklin High School, David attended VCU and Longwood University. Many of his art works decorate the walls of his home and the National Institute of Mental Health.

A celebration of life will be conducted at a later date. Please contact the family to receive specific details about the service. David’s ashes will be spread over the Chesapeake Bay that he so loved. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in David’s memory to The Children’s Center, 700 Campbell Avenue, Franklin, VA 23851.
