ZUNI – Tony Mason Briley, 71, passed away Oct. 26, 2024 in his home. Born in Franklin, he was a son of the late Rev. Julian Burley Briley and Lucille Mason Briley. He was also predeceased by his stepson, Scott Edward Whitfield.
Tony was a 1973 graduate of Franklin High School and
a graduate of Paul D. Camp Community College. He was a retired accounting manager for the Department of Defense. Tony was a member of the Sun Wheelers wheelchair basketball team for 40 years and was a longtime volunteer coach for softball and basketball. He was a member of Believers Church.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 31 years, Peggy Ann Briley; his siblings, Jean B. Lowe (David), Gary H. Briley (Sharon), J. Wayne Briley (Wanda Blythe) and Teresa B. Vick (Steve); a grandchild, Haley Kendall Whitfield and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31 in Wright Funeral Home with Pastor Tyler Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial and Cremation Gardens, 4569 Shoulders Hill Road, Suffolk. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to Sun Wheelers Inc., 8 Bowen Drive, Hampton, VA 23666.
