CARRSVILLE – Marjorie “Marge” Ann Cooper Richards, aged 85, entered Heaven’s gates on Oct. 23, 2024, surrounded by family and loved ones. Born on July 29, 1939, in Levi, West Virginia, Marge was a cherished member of her community and family. She attended Dupont High West Virginia and graduated from Charleston High School in 1957, later attending TCC.

Marge was the beloved daughter of the late John Dolever and Helen Marie Via Cooper. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Gale Richards I; and sons, Ron and Randy Richards, as well as her brother, John Cooper, and sister, Paula Cooper-Kelly.

On March 15, 1958, Marge married Robert G. Richards, with whom she shared 56 wonderful years. She devoted 16 years as a military wife, supporting her husband and family. Marge worked as a bookkeeper at Carrsville Elementary School for 16 years, where she was loved by all who entered its doors. Upon retirement, Marge became the secretary of Western Branch Baptist Church, serving for 17 years. She was deeply involved in her church, contributing as a Youth Sunday School Teacher, a member of the WMU and the Hospitality Committee and was part of the Electa Sunday School Class. Her church family was dear to her heart, and she considered Pastor Micah Voight as her son-in-love.

Marge is survived by her son, Robert Richards II (Betty); special daughters, Lynda Richards (Calvin) and Becky Butler (Jonathan); grandchildren, Crystalyn (Cory), R. Grant (Krystal), Ron “Bubba” (Jenn) and Lindsey (Paul), along with eight great-grandsons; her sister, Mary Margaret Thier and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1, at Western Branch Baptist Church, 6952 Old Myrtle Road, Suffolk, Virginia 23434, with Pastor Micah Voight officiating.
