COURTLAND – Melvin Gilliam “Gill” Moore, 79, passed away Nov. 7, 2024 in his home with family by his side. Born in Smithfield, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Melvin C. and Etheleen McLamb Moore. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Fancy Moore Stewart.
Gill was a retired Master Chief in the U.S. Navy serving from 1962 to 1983 and a retired Power Plant Supervisor for Union Camp/International Paper with 23 years of service (1983-2006). He was a member of Harvest Christian Fellowship Church.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Starling Moore; a sister, Ellen Moore Radford; a brother, Ray Moore; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Starling; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Samuel and Cindy Johnson; a son-in-law, Stephen Allen Stewart; many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12 in Wright Funeral Home in Franklin with Pastor Randy Wright officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in Wright Funeral Home.
A funeral service will also be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13 in Parrish Funeral Home, 1351 S. Pollock Street, Selma, North Carolina. Entombment with full military honors will follow in Selma Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in Parrish Funeral Home and suggests that memorial donations be made to The Harvest Christian Fellowship Church, 27002 Smith Ferry Road, Franklin, VA 23851.
