The 2024 season came to a close for Franklin High School’s varsity football team on Friday, Nov. 15, with a 44-6 loss to host Buffalo Gap High School in the first round of the Region 1B playoffs.

The Broncos entered Friday’s game in Swoope as the No. 6 seed, with the Bison holding the No. 3 seed.

“We obviously didn’t play our best game,” Franklin Head Coach Lamont Hill said. “Because of the distance traveled, we stopped and fed the kids.”

Buffalo Gap in Swoope is close to 200 miles away from FHS, creating a more than three-hour drive.

“Once we got back on the road (after stopping to eat), everything just seemed off,” Hill said. “We arrived a little after 6 p.m., and the game started at 7, which gave us less than an hour to get ready.”

The Broncos finished the season with an overall record of 3-8.

“We left a couple of games on the field this year,” Hill said. “Whether it was costly penalties, turnovers or playing outside of the system, it cost us. There were also games in which I could have done a better job of play-calling. We all have room to grow and get better. We will use the offseason to get better, whether it’s camps for the kids and coaches clinics for the coaches.”

As the Broncos left the gridiron for the last time this season, they said goodbye to a group of seniors who had played their last football game for Franklin, and the group included Anthony Brown, Jordan Duck, Kemonte Flythe, Travis Mabry, Ahmad McNeil, Taraji Ruffin, Altavis Turner and Kemari Winfrey.
