DALEVILLE – Dr. Patsy Rainey Joyner, 81, passed away Monday, Nov. 25, 2024 at home. She was the wife of the late William Thomas “Tommy” Joyner III and the daughter of the late Ryland Roberts Rainey and Dorothy Cooley Rainey.
Patsy was a graduate of Windsor High School, Paul D. Camp Community College, Old Dominion University and The College of William & Mary, where she received a doctorate in higher education administration.
Her love of learning and teaching inspired and influenced many over the years. She had a great appreciation for music, art and cats.
Much of her life revolved around Paul D. Camp Community College. She was a member of the first graduating class and after spending years teaching elementary schoo
l, began a very fulfilling and meaningful career there serving in various roles – most recently the Vice President for Institutional Advancement. She was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for over 30 years. She was also a member of the DAR.
Left to cherish her legacy are her daughter, Pattie Joyner Lee and her husband, The Rev. Thomas G. Lee Sr. of Daleville; four grandchildren, Emily Lee Smith of Kilmarnock, Thomas G. Lee Jr. (Dara) of Roanoke, Mary Beth Lee (Nick) of Roanoke and Ginny Lee of Daleville; seven great-grandchildren, Kiera Lee, Aubrey Somers, Madeline Somers, Aayden Lee, Avery Lee, Harper Lee and Atlas Lucado and many special nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her brother, Ryland R Rainey Jr. (Nancy).
A celebration of life and reception will be held at Courtland United Methodist Church on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025 at 2 p.m. following a private graveside service.
