SEDLEY – Alfred Dean “Cubie” Hewett, 86, passed away Dec. 7, 2024 in the East Pavilion. He was born in a logging camp in Little River, South Carolina and was a son of the late Charlie Hewett and Carrie Hewett. He was also predeceased by his wife, Alice Gray Hewett; a son, Jimmy D. Hewett; brothers, C.L. Hewett and Vol Hewett; sisters, Arlene Crowl and Shula Hewett.
Cubie was a sheeter operator at Union Camp Corp. with 40 years of service. He was a member of the Sedley Volunteer Fire Department, Sedley Ruritan Club, Sedley Hunt Club and a member of Sedley Baptist Church. Cubie loved cruising in his 1956 Ford Custom with his “Cars Are Fun Club.”
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Gary Hewett (Deborah) and Darrell Hewett (Barbara); a daughter in law, Chris Hewett;
a sister, Shirley Thompson; three brothers, Joey Hewett, Johnny Hewett (Linda) and Jerry Hewett (Nancy); six grandchildren, Scott Hewett (Brandy), Luke Hewett (Katie), Mandy Hewett, Josh Hewett (Caroline), Amanda Lassiter (Travis) and Melisa Hewett (Korey); eight great-grandchildren, Cole Hewett, Breelyn Hewett, Karsyn, Layton and Reid Ashworth, Huck Hewett, Leah Hewett and Hattie Hewett and numerous nieces and nephews and a special friend, Judy Carr.
Thanks to the boys at Sedley Hunt Club, Monday Night Suppers was the highlight of his week.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10 in Wright Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Foreman and Pastor Hoyle Green officiating. The burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery in Sedley. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and suggests memorial donations be made to Sedley Baptist Church Local Ministry or Rosemont Cemetery, Sedley. A reception will follow the burial at Sedley Baptist Church.
