A 1993 graduate of Franklin High School, Amy Phillips is a true Franklin native. She began her education in Franklin City Public Schools at the former K-1 Annex, proceeded to S. P. Morton Elementary School, where – except one semester – she stayed through the school’s transition to S. P. Morton Middle School. Then she continued on to Franklin High School. After high school, she continued her education at Paul D. Camp Community College and Old Dominion University.
In 1997, Amy married her high school “sweetheart”, Scott Phillips, and they settled in Isle of Wight County. In 1995, she began a career in financial services with several local financial institutions including Bank of America, Dominion Bank, First Union, James River Bank, and Bronco Federal Credit Union that would span 27 years.
After their first child Lillie was born, Amy and her husband decided to move back to Franklin so their children would be educated in the same school division they had attended. They believed in and valued the education Franklin offered. Shortly after returning to Franklin, their second child, Laney Marshall was born. From the moment her children entered school, Amy was very active within the school system, starting as a room mother and continuing as PTA treasurer for a number of years. These experiences and a love for children planted a seed that made Amy want to give back to the community she loves in a bigger way.
In November 2016, Amy decided to take a larger step and serve the students, staff, and citizens of Franklin City by serving on the Franklin City School Board, where she proudly served for nearly six years. Mrs. Phillips served as vice-chairperson for one year as well as chairperson for three years. While she felt she was making a difference in the lives of students and improving the community, Amy felt she could have a larger impact on children through other means than being on the school board. In 2022, she left the financial services industry as well as the school board, and began working with Franklin City Public Schools as Attendance and Truancy Officer. In this role, Amy works directly with students and their families to help them understand the importance of regular school attendance. She is loved by the students, many affectionately referring to her as “mom” or “Auntie.”
