FRANKLIN – William (Bill) Frederick Witt, 91, passed away Jan. 17, 2025, at Lake Prince Woods Health Care Facility in Suffolk with his wife by his side. Born and raised in Pennsylvania he was a son of the late Frederick William Witt and Mabel Markle Witt. He was predeceased by his wife of 37 years, Ernestine E. Witt; a daughter, Kathy Elaine Witt; sister, Virginia Price; a brother, Charles Witt; a brother-in-law, Tucker Price.

d being on the football team and the wrestling team. He was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and a member of different committees. He was a member of the Forks of the River Ruritan Club, Franklin Masonic Lodge 151, Khedive Shrine Temple of Norfolk, Order of the Eastern Star Whaleyville Chapter 137, AARP Chapter of Franklin, FRA and Woodmen of the World Franklin Chapter 18.

Bill served in the Navy for 32 years retiring as Master Chief with most time spent on submarines. The last two years were spent inspecting the galleys on submarines in ports on the east coast.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 30 years, Ira Jean Witt; two daughters, Nancy W. Adams (James), Suzanne W. Reznak; stepson, Michael T. Weaver; four grandchildren, Meredith Elaine Adams, Everett Stephen Adams, Kyle Dalton Reznak, Rebecca Anne Reznak; one great-grandson, Greyson Michael DeMeyere.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday Jan. 21 in Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Tracey Pugh and the Rev. Dave Roberts officiating. The burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service in the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to Sycamore Baptist Church.

The family would like to thank the caregivers and the Hospice Team at Lake Prince Woods for the excellent and loving care that made Bill’s journey home very peaceful.
