Closures and delays for Jan. 23 due to road conditions

Educational institutions and local governments in the area are adjusting their schedules due to the road conditions brought about by recent winter weather and freezing overnight temperatures.
SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Southampton County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Gwendolyn P. Shannon shared the following update on social media shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22: “Good evening everyone, in consideration of the current road conditions throughout the county and the extremely low temperatures expected overnight and into the morning hours, Southampton County Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025. Information on make-up days will be coming out soon!”
FRANKLIN CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Franklin City Public Schools announced just before 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, that after additional assessment of road conditions, the school division will be closed Thursday, Jan. 23.
“We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to ensure the safety of our students and staff,” FCPS officials added.
ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY SCHOOLS
Earlier on Wednesday evening, Isle of Wight County Schools shared the following message with its community: “Due to the condition of roads throughout the county, and the continued freezing temperatures, Isle of Wight County schools and offices will remain closed on Thursday, Jan. 23, for all students and staff. This includes all after-school and evening activities. SOL testing for middle school students scheduled for tomorrow will occur on Friday.
“We appreciate your understanding as we all work together to ensure the safety of our students and staff.”
CITY OF FRANKLIN
The city of Franklin had announced on its Facebook page on Wednesday morning that the city government would be operating on a two-hour delay Thursday, Jan. 23.
