School divisions have announced the schedules they plan to operate on for Friday, Jan. 24, amid continuing low temperatures.

SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Southampton County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Gwendolyn P. Shannon stated in an SCPS post on social media that due to poor conditions persisting on county back roads and freezing temperatures overnight, the school division will be closed Friday, Jan. 24.

FRANKLIN CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Stephen H. Cowles, FCPS coordinator of social media & public relations, stated, “Franklin City Public Schools will operate on a regular schedule on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025.”

ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY SCHOOLS

Lynn B. Briggs, IWCS director of community and media relations, shared the following announcement Thursday, Jan. 23, with the public:

“All Isle of Wight County Schools and offices will operate on a two-hour delay tomorrow, Jan. 24, for all students and staff.

“We understand that some back roads may still be challenging,” the announcement continued. “Bus drivers will exercise extra caution on their routes, which could lead to delays in pick-up and drop-off times. We kindly ask for your patience and understanding as drivers prioritize the safety of the children on their buses.

“High schools and middle schools will communicate changes to the exam schedule and SOL testing schedule directly with their families.”

The announcement noted that while IWCS is not adjusting next week’s schedule, the last day of the first semester has been extended to Thursday, Jan. 30, and the second semester will now begin on Friday, Jan. 31.

“Thank you for your understanding and flexibility as we work to keep our students safe,” the announcement added.
