The group Virginians Against the Outlying Landing Field will host three informational meetings next week.
Tony Clark, the group’s chairman, said the meetings are open to the public.
“We want to update the community as to where we are in the process (of fighting the OLF) and what our expectations are for the next few months,” Clark said.
He added that the Navy was expected to release an environmental impact statement that summarizes the findings for all five sites being considered for the OLF by the end of the summer.
The first meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Surry High School. The school is located at 1675 Hollybush Road in Dendron.
VAOLF will hold the second meeting at 7 p.m. next Wednesday at the Southampton County Government Center, 26022 Administration Center Drive, in Courtland.
The third meeting will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at Bethlehem Church, 26843 Grizzard Road, in Jarratt.
The Navy has identified five sites, two in North Carolina and three in Virginia, for the proposed OLF. The three Virginia sites are Cabin Point, Dory and Mason. The Cabin Point site is near the confluence of Surry, Prince George and Sussex counties, while the Dory and Mason sites straddle both Sussex and Southampton counties.
