Franklin High took advantage of Windsor’s inexperience and coasted to an 88-41 win in Tri-Rivers District boys’ basketball action Tuesday.

“We will do the best that we can with what we have,” Windsor head coach Jeff Hampton said of his outmanned Dukes. “We only have two players returning from past year, and we are young with little experience.”

Running the floor offensively and aggressive defense allowed the Broncos to jump out in front quickly and hold a commanding lead for the entire game.

After Franklin claimed a 25-11 lead through one quarter, Coach Danny Dillon went to his bench midway of the second quarter to give his younger players some experience. Still, the Broncos stretched their lead to 52-19 at halftime.

Franklin led 65-26 at the end of the third quarter. The Dukes, refusing to throw in the towel, fought hard in the fourth quarter, scoring 15 points.

Dillon said he was pleased with his team’s play.

The Broncos improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the Tri-Rivers District. The Dukes are 0-12.

The Broncos put five players in double figures: Derrick Thompson with 20 points, Donzell Shearin with 14, Justin Grant with 12, Ashley Lee with 11 and Davel Newsome with 10.

For the Dukes, Tony Walton led the way with 10 points.
