A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of two Georgia brothers on drug and and weapons charges Saturday evening.

Terrence L. Harper, 21, and passenger Charles T. Harper, 24, both of East Point, Ga., were stopped for allegedly speeding in the 100 block of Morton Street in a red 2008 Dodge Magnum, police said. After officers detected a “strong smell” of marijuana while approaching the vehicle, they decided to investigate further.

The officers allegedly discovered a MAC-10 9mm machine pistol on the driver’s-side floorboard and a Smith & Wesson 9mm pistol under the front passenger seat. The driver was also found to have a small amount of marijuana on his person, police allege.

Terrence L. Harper was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and marijuana possession and given a $5,000 bond by a magistrate. Charles T. Harper was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and received a $1,000 bond.

Both men later posted bond and were released.
