FRANKLIN—The Franklin City Council has hired Melissa Rollins, director of finance and information technology for Surry County, as its new finance director.

Rollins has 14 years experience in municipal government with an emphasis in finance and budgeting.

“Mrs. Rollins brings to this organization a mix of skills and experiences that are essential to establishing and maintaining a sound municipal financial system,” said City Manager June Fleming. “I am extremely pleased that she has decided to join our staff.”

Rollins graduated from Virginia Union University and is working on a master’s degree in public administration.

She will begin working on Monday, Aug. 8.

Rollins also will oversee information technology, which had been handled by Fleming.
