FRANKLIN—The Franklin Redevelopment and Housing Authority is asking the city to rezone a portion of Bank Street for government-subsidized townhouses.

The Franklin Planning Commission will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at City Hall to consider the conditional rezoning of the Suburban Gardens property.

The plan is to replace 75 former units with 34 new units, said Community Development Coordinator Donald Goodwin. The project would be built in phases, starting as rental properties with a transition to home ownership.

“The Franklin Redevelopment and Housing Authority is looking to develop a community of 34 town homes that will compliment the existing homes in the area with home ownership opportunity in the future,” said Nicole Inabinet, interim executive director for the housing authority.

Additional details are available for inspection at the office of the secretary of the Planning Commission at City Hall.

The proposal must be approved by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
