Turnovers doom SA in road loss

Southampton Academy rolled up 300 yards rushing, but turnovers killed the Raiders’ chances Friday in a 37-18 loss to Carlisle School.
Southampton Academy (4-3) fumbled twice inside the 5-yard line.
“We just struggled. We had too many fumbled snaps tonight. The problem was with the center exchange,” said Dale Marks, Southampton Academy head coach. “We also had an interception returned on us for a score and a punt return on us for a score.”
SA actually took the early lead. The Raiders took the opening kickoff and scored when Michael Milteer crossed the goal line from 4 yards out to put SA up 6-0. With the score 28-6 at the half, Southampton Academy scored twice in the second half, once on a 5-yard run by Hinkle and the other on a 6-yard run by Michael Milteer, which came after an onside kick.
Hinkle finished the game with 17 runs for 139 yards and Milteer rushed 14 times for 94 yards. Quarterback Tyler Lass was knocked out of the game with a possible concussion.
“The kids played tough. We beat them statistically, but it was the same problem we’ve been having all year,” Marks said. “We’ve been leaving it on the ground too much.”
