FRANKLIN—Two North Carolina men were arrested early Thursday morning after a call from a concerned citizen alerted police to a suspicious car.

At about 1:50 a.m., officers received a call from a citizen about a suspicious white vehicle in the 400 block of Cobb Street. When officers arrived, they found four men in the car.

During the investigation, the officers removed the occupants of the car one by one to verify their identities.

They discovered that Benjamin Williams, 27, of the 100 block of Williams Lane in Murfreesboro, N.C., was wanted for breaking into a vehicle and larceny from the vehicle. Williams was arrested and a fugitive warrant was obtained.

“As the officers removed the front seat passenger from the car, one of them observed that the driver was reaching for a loaded .357 magnum revolver between the seats,” said a press release issued by the Franklin Police Department.

“The driver failed to obey commands to show his hands and the officer alerted the others to the threat. The officers, displaying great restraint, refrained from using deadly force and instead removed the driver from the car and restrained him.”

The driver, Terrell Glen Newsome, 27, of the 100 block of Hill Street in Murfreesboro, was taken into custody and charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon. Both Newsome and Williams were remanded to Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond.
