BOYKINS—Joe Sam Benton, 72, died July 23, 2011, at his home in Boykins.

The funeral was held Thursday at Engram Funeral Home.

Mr. Benton is survived by daughters Sandra Fenton of Norfolk and Tameka Pope of Maryland; a son, Donell Brown of Franklin; sisters Louise Freeman, Virginia Hill and Edith Benton, all of Boykins, and Lillie White of Murfreesboro, N.C.; and brothers Gary Benton of Franklin and Larry Benon of Newsoms.

Mr. Benton was born in Southampton County.
