FRANKLIN—Ricky Hatfield with Courtland Volunteer Rescue, whose stage name was Morphina McNaughty, before a sellout crowd was crowned Miss Mid-Summer Hottie during Friday’s womanless beauty pageant at Paul D. Camp Community College.

The fundraiser also netted more than $4,000 for 28-year-old cancer victim Alnee Bailey in Courtland.

Thirteen local male firefighters and ambulance workers volunteered to participate in the pageant at the Regional Workforce Development Center.

Contestants modeled sportswear and formal wear, performed and were interviewed. Some of the performances included lip syncing, pig calling, the Hula Hoop, singing and guitar playing, jumping rope while blowing bubbles, baton twirling, playing the recorder, and poetry reading.

Bud Cutchins of Hunterdale Volunteer Fire Department sang “The National Anthem” to start the event and later sang “I Won’t Let Go” by Rascal Flatts; Cutchins dedicated the song to Bailey, who was diagnosed with cancer in November 2008.

Judges were Cutchins, Dr. Donald Bowling, Josh Wyche and Hunt Story.

Contestants were Charlie Griffin as Southside Sally from Courtland Rescue and Hunterdale Volunteer Fire Department; Michael Bradshaw as Goldie Asston from Newsoms Volunteer Fire Department and Franklin Fire and Rescue; Michael Griffin as Chumbelina from Capron Fire and First Aid Squad; L.T. Bryant as Hot as an Ember Amber from Courtland Volunteer Fire Department; Mitch White as De’Lisha from Sedley Volunteer Fire Department; Stevie Ezzell as Paddy Paddles from Courtland Rescue Squad; Clif Johnson as Ida Hoe from Capron Fire and First Aid Squad; Kevin Moore as Chesty Pains from Courtland Rescue Squad and Fire; David “Goose” Turner as Lucy Goosey from Courtland Fire; and Doug Bailey as Hose Handlin’ Hannah from Courtland Fire.
