CARROLLTON—Rick Morris won the Republican nomination with 79 percent of the vote for the 64th House of Delegates District on Saturday.
Joseph Waymack, a political consultant from Prince George County, also sought the nomination.
Morris, the former chairman for the Isle of Wight County Republican Party, retired in 2010 after a 22-year career with the Navy. He opened a law firm in Virginia Beach that focuses on military and federal law.
A Carrollton resident, Morris unanimously won the Isle of Wight, Suffolk, Franklin and Southampton delegations and had strong showings in Surry and Prince George.
Morris is running against Democrat incumbent William Barlow of Smithfield.
