SPRING GROVE—Nathan Everett Brown, 57, died Aug. 6, 2008, in the home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Brown was a 1969 graduate of L.P. Jackson High School in Dendron.

He retired from Surry County Public School Systems as head custodian for L.P. Jackson Middle School and Food Lion in Williamsburg.

He gave his life to Christ at an early age and joined Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Ivor.

He later joined Lebanon Baptist Church in Surry, and served faithfully on the Usher Board, Board of Trustees, Male Chorus and Senior Choir.

He also served as director of transportation for the church until his health failed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Hartzell Sr. and Elnora H. Brown, and a brother, Hartzell Brown Jr.

Survivors include a loving and devoted wife, Queen Brown of Spring Grove; and his daughter, Tracey Brown of Newport News; father-in-law, Lawrence Parson Sr.; three stepsons, Milton Brown of Newport News, Jesse Bolden Jr. (Pauletta) of Atlanta, Ga., and Jermond Bolden of Spring Grove; three sisters, Louise Williams (Jonathan), Barbara Harrison (Dennis) and Virginia Gary (James), all of Surry; one sister-in-law, Eliza Drew (Cornelius) of Dendron; four brothers-in-law, Joseph Parson (Doris) of Leesville, La., Lawrence Parson Jr. of Richmond, Anthony Parson Sr. of Surry, and Cornelius Parson Sr. (Mechelle) of Fort Knox, Ky.; three grandchildren, Eric Brown, Rikkia and Kiasia Fauntleroy; six step-grandchildren, Eternity and JaQuan Brown, Tyrique Bolden, Treshaun Clayton, Xavier Holloway and Jesse Bolden III; two godchildren, Timothy and Aaron Clayton; a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held Tuesday at Lebanon Baptist Church with Pastor Gregory L. Spurlock Sr. presiding.

Interment was in Davis Cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by Poole’s Funeral Home, Smithfield.
