SEDLEY—Teresa Jernigan of Sedley and Joseph Jernigan of Walters announce the engagement of their son, Christopher Raymond Jernigan, to Sarah Leanna Latham of Avon, N.C.

Jernigan is the maternal grandson of the late Raymond Sr. and Patricia E. Parker of Sedley, and the paternal grandson of Libby and the late Leslie Jernigan of Walters.

He is a senior music major at Chowan University.

Latham is the daughter of the Rev. Taylor and Shelia Latham of Avon.

She is the granddaughter of Jim and Judy Greer of Harrison, Ind., and the granddaughter of the late James and Garnet Stevenson and Prentis and Joan Latham, all of Avon.

She is a summa cum laude graduate of Chowan University with a degree in elementary education.

A wedding is planned for Aug. 2 at Sycamore Baptist Church.
