CARROLLTON—At least five people were rushed to the hospital late Thursday afternoon following two nearly simultaneous shootings in the Eagle Harbor community.

Police and rescue workers responded at about 5 p.m. to the Sonic Restaurant on Carrollton Boulevard, where they found at least one gunshot victim. Within minutes, an Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office dispatcher was calling for additional help to respond to Chesapeake Place, where two gunshot victims were located in a house.

Emergency crews also transported two others who were injured in relation to the incident, according to discussions between the dispatcher and emergency services providers.

One victim with multiple gunshot wounds was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. One victim with less extensive injuries was driven to Norfolk General. Two victims were transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center, and one other was driven to Obici Memorial Hospital, a dispatcher reported.

By 6 p.m., the Virginia State Police, Isle of Wight deputies and Smithfield investigators were all on the scene to look for clues and evidence.

One of the victims in the Chesapeake Place home told police that the shooters had left in a four-door white Honda, police said in a radio transmission.

One of the victims in that house was shot in the leg, rescue workers said. The other was shot five times, according to a radio transmission.

The Eagle Harbor Swim Club was locked down during the incident and remained that way at 6:30 p.m. while investigators searched for one person who had fled on foot, according to a transmission on the police scanner.
