FRANKLIN—Franklin’s Walmart will host a stuff-the-bus event 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, through Sunday, Aug. 28.
Residents are asked to donate school supplies and clothing for students in kindergarten through 12th grade at Franklin Public Schools.
School officials will go to Walmart on Monday, Aug. 29, to gather the items.
“We are planning on taking a team of administrators and some of our staff to Walmart and we’re going to go through and bag up supplies,” said Gail Wade, the school district’s recently hired director of human resources and administrative sources.”
They will separate items into the appropriate age groups and take them to S.P. Morton Elementary, J.P. King Middle and Franklin High schools.
“They will be ready for students (when they return to school) on Sept. 6,” Wade said. “We will give them to students who are in most need to make sure students have the necessary (supplies).”
“We’re going to have a surplus of supplies hopefully at each school for those students who don’t come prepared, or haven’t gotten the necessary supplies, or are in most need,” she added.
Anything that is not used will be stored.
“It will be kept as a supply and will be given out throughout the year,” Wade said.
The school district is pleased with its partnership with Walmart.
“We’re excited about it,” she said.
