FRANKLIN—Doctors have upgraded their assessment of the condition of an 18-year-old Franklin resident who was hurt in a single-vehicle accident Saturday, hours after he graduated from Southampton High School.
Hudson Gavin had improved from “critical” to “serious” condition by Wednesday morning, according to a spokesperson from Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He was flown to that facility following the 2:45 a.m. wreck on Sunday.
“His vital signs are still unstable,” hospital spokeswoman Gloria Seitz said Wednesday. “He’s still seriously ill.”
Gavin was thrown from his vehicle when he ran off the road and into a utility pole on Flaggy Run Road near Main Street in Courtland, according to police reports.
He has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
