SUFFOLK—Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Lee F. Bond of Holland, died May 29, 2008.

Mr. Bond was an outstanding high school athlete, excelling in football and track. He continued on to the University of Wyoming in Laramie where he played football and wrestled.

He had a lifelong interest in Western art, history and literature and was extremely proud of his Western heritage.

After graduating from the University of Wyoming, he taught agriculture for a couple of years and then entered the United States Army after the outbreak of World War II. He was proud to have served as a member of one of the last Mounted Calvary units in the Army.

He went on to serve his country for 20 years in North Africa, Italy, Japan, Korea and at various posts stateside. After retiring from the Army, he owned the Holland Drugstore and then served as a probation and parole officer in the city of Suffolk until he retired in 1976.

He was an active member of the Holland Christian Church and the Holland Ruritan Club and a proud member of the Masons.

He married and lived for 52 years with his beloved wife, Catherine Jolly Bond of Holland.

Survivors include their daughter, Ann, her husband Roger and grandsons, Tim and Steven Davis of Richmond.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Holland Christian Church by the Rev. Dr. Jay Slater in the Holland Community of Suffolk.

The family will greet family and friends at a reception in the church following the service.
