SMITHFIELD—Thomas Jay Barker, 52, died June 9, 2008, in Sentara Obici Hospital.

Mr. Barker was a resident of Isle of Wight County for 29 years and an employee of Northrup Grumman.

He was a member of the Jefferson Masonic Lodge No. 65 in Surry and was a past master of Smithfield Union No. 18. He loved being with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Janet Sykes Barker; son, Justin Thomas Barker of Smithfield; daughter, Brandy Helman (Bradly) of Newport News; and stepmother, Neva Jo Barker of Oregon.

A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. today in Colonial Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Acree officiating.

Masonic rites will be observed. Family will receive friends following the service.
