Members of a new Franklin-Southampton Relay for Life team are promoting being treated like royalty, while joining the fight against cancer.
Crowns For A Cure team, in its first year, is a group of seven current or past pageant winners who have united in the efforts to raise money for cancer research.
&uot;I decided that it would be something fun to do, since it had never been done before,&uot; said Mallory Taylor, current Miss Franklin-Southampton County Fair, who started the team.
Other members include Southampton High School 2007 Homecoming Queen Brandi Taylor, Southampton Academy 2007 Homecoming Queen Kelsey Johnson, Miss Southampton High School 2008 Kristan Cobb, Miss Southampton High School 2007 Faith Hewett, First runner-up of Miss Franklin-Southampton County Fair Whitney Councill and current Miss Isle of Wight County Fair Katie Callow.
One of the upcoming fund-raisers the group has been working on is called the Princess Parade – an activity geared to younger girls.
For a $5 donation, a spot will be held for a participant to walk with other princesses at the Relay on May 31 at 1 p.m.
