EMPORIA—The Hicksford Chapter National Daughters of the American Revolution recently celebrated its 100th Anniversary with a luncheon meeting in the First Presbyterian Church in Emporia.

The chapter was founded on Flag Day, June 14, 1911. Dora Hedges Goodwyn was the founding regent.

Chapter Regent Jeanne Newsome welcomed members and guests, including Bana Caskey, immediate past state regent and vice president general of NSDAR, and Emporia City Manager Brian Thrower.

Chapter Registrar Nancy Squire led “The Pledge of Allegiance,” “The American’s Creed” and “Star-Spangled Banner.”

Following lunch, Chapter Historian Joanne Fox presented the program, which included the history of the chapter, a power point of chapter pictures from the last 100 years and a display table of memorabilia.

Newsome recognized members who have served for 35 years or more.

Anniversary Chairwoman Ruth Tillar gave the closing tribute in honor of those serving in the military and in memory of the terrorist attacks on the United States from Sept. 11, 2001, as the 10th anniversary approaches.

Chaplin Dianne Mitchell read the poem “Proud to be an American” and was accompanied on the piano by Fox.
