FRANKLIN—The Franklin City School Board agreed Thursday to upgrade security at the district’s three buildings.

The project contracted through Honeywell will cost $74,000 and will be paid from state funds, Superintendent Dr. Michelle Belle said Friday.

“We want a system in place that will ensure our students are safe at all times,” Belle said. “The goal is to get buildings more secure.”

Ron Faw, a security expert with Honeywell, pointed out some problems with the division’s current security system and gave board members recommendations on what could be done during last month’s board meeting.

During the presentation, Faw said he would like to see access to the schools further restricted, an improvement of the employee and student badge system and a reconfiguration of security cameras.

The upgrades at Franklin High School will include intercom and security cameras at the doors. Honeywell will add the same system at J.P. King Middle and S.P. Morton Elementary schools. The elementary school will also get card readers at doorways.
