WILMINGTON, N.C.—Olivia Raftery, “ORT,” 89, died April 19,2008, at Silver Stream after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
She was born in Wilmington, Nov. 27, 1918, the daughter of the late James M. and Irene Fredericks Raftery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Murdock Turner, and her daughter, Irene Turner Powell.
Mrs. Turner was a member of Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church and had taught Sunday School for over 60 years.
She had worked for GAB Insurance Co. for 40 years and was a past president of the N.C. Insurance Women’s Association.
She taught dancing at Cantwell Dance Studio for many years.
Survivors include her daughter, Louise Turner Berrane of Grafton; six grandchildren, Laura Irene Powell, Anna Powell Speight, Bradley Eugene Berrane, Charles Sherwood Berrane, Marvin Edward Berrane and Theresa Anne Berrane; her great-grandchildren, Olivia Irene Speight, Jakob Douglas Speight, Ava Louise Speight, Jacueline Michelle Therrien, Danielle, Ben, David, and Andy Berrane, Joseph Sto Janov, and Elizabeth Chambers; two sisters, Eleanor Wolfe of Wilmington and Emily Oliphant of Smithfield.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Greenlawn Memorial Park by Dr. June Highfill.
Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel, 1617 Market St., Wilmington, is handling arrangements.
