SA baseball off to struggling start

COURTLAND_-The Southampton Academy Raiders suffered a tough 13-3 loss on Thursday afternoon at the hands of the Brunswick Academy Vikings.
With the loss the Raiders dropped to 3-4 in the Virginia Commonwealth Conference
and 3-5 overall. The Vikings improved to 10-2 overall and 7-1 in the VCC Conference.
Tyler Lass took the loss and dropped to 2-2 on the season.
The MVP for the Raiders was Matthew Pitts, who hit a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning.
The Raiders held the Vikings scoreless in the first inning. After that the Vikings scored 13 in the final four innings and the Raiders did not score until the top of the fifth inning.
Pitts led the Raiders with 1 hit and 2 RBIs. Tyler Lass finished with 1 hit and 2 stolen bases.
Cameron Ray finished with 1 hit and 1 stolen base. Paul Edwards finished with 1 hit, 1 RBI and 1 stolen base.
Ryan Suits finished with 1 hit and 1 stolen base.
After the game Raiders head coach Tim Lass said, &uot;Matthew had a nice home run. Robert made good throws to second base. You have to be mentally prepared for the game of baseball.
&uot;Brunswick is a good team, but we were not mentally prepared for them.&uot;
The Raiders played the Tidewater Academy Warriors on Friday afternoon and lost.
