Lady Raiders blank Fuqua in softball

COURTLAND-Southampton Academy proved too dominant for Fuqua School on the softball diamond Monday, walking away with a 10-0 victory.
The Lady Raiders ran their record to 5-4 overall and 3-4 in the Virginia Commonwealth Conference.
Michalann Camp paced SA offensively with her third career home run and first of the season. She had three RBIs and a stolen base. Courtney Tayloe pitched a three-hitter and struck out 13 batters to stymie the Lady Falcons.
SA outhit Fuqua 15-3.
Helping the Lady Raiders offensively were Taylor Bradshaw with two hits and three RBIs, Catherine Glover with a hit and a stolen base, Tayloe with three hits, Jaime Bradshaw with two hits, two RBIs and two stolen bases, Shelby Dunn with one hit, Emma Fretts with three hits and an RBI, Nicole Reedy with a hit, an RBI and two stolen bases, and Whitley Smith with 1 hit.
“As young as we are, we are where we expected to be,&uot; said Lady Raider head coach Shawn Denne. &uot;This is a learning year for a lot of our players, and as long as we are learning then we are doing well.”
The Lady Raiders travel to Amelia Academy to face the Lady Patriots at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The Raider baseball team also hosted Fuqua on Monday afternoon but struggled in a 5-3 loss.
