Private-school playoffs: Tidewater boys advance; SA girls eliminated

The Tidewater Academy boys’ basketball team has been a survivor in the Virginia Independent Schools Division III playoffs. Thursday night, the fifth-seeded Chargers knocked off fourth-seeded StoneBridge School 50-46 to advance to Friday’s semifinal round.
Tidewater will play top seed Evangel Christian at noon at Richard Bland College in Petersburg. Evangel beat Hampton Christian 62-51 Thursday night to advance to the semifinals.
The winner of the Tidewater Academy-Evangel Christian game will advance to the state championship game at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Richard Bland College.
Southampton Academy’s girls were eliminated from the state tournament with a 94-36 loss to Miller School in Charlottesville on Thursday.
