City elections attracting a full field

The City of Franklin elections are shaping into quite the event.
Three candidates are running for the mayor’s seat, and there was almost a fourth. That’s almost unheard of in small government elections.
At least one City Council seat will be occupied by a relative newcomer. Ward 1 Councilman Joe Scislowicz decided to forego a re-election bid, so his seat is up for grabs. Two candidates have declared their intentions thus far.
Incumbent Charles Wrenn is being challenged in Ward 2.
What this means is the elections will get exciting. The possibility of three new faces on the City Council dais — a mayor and two councilmen — is remarkable.
If nothing else, the fact that races are being challenged this year reflects an undercurrent of dissatisfaction with the way the city currently operates.
Change isn’t always necessarily good. But neither is complacency.
Still, rather than residents sitting on their hands and lobbing complaints at their government, new candidates are stepping out, entering the political fold.
It is a sign that serious concerns are being dealt with seriously.
