WINDSOR–As of 3 p.m. Sunday, 5,600 customers served by Community Electric Cooperative in Suffolk and Isle of Wight, Southampton and Sussex counties are without power, said Gregory S. Cook, vice president of administration and finance for the utility.

That is down from nearly 7,800 consumers out as of Saturday night, Cook said.

 “It is our hope to have the majority of our consumers back on in the next two to three days,” he said.

Electrical construction and right-of-way crews have been brought in from other cooperatives as well as independent contractors to aid in the restoration process.

There are numerous reports of trees and limbs on power lines, and some lines have fallen to the ground.

Downed power lines are dangerous, Cook said.

“For your safety, we ask that you stay away from downed lines and anything that may touch a power line,” he said. “It is too early to tell at this time when service will be restored.”
