As of noon Monday, Community Electric Cooperative in Windsor restored power to 3,700 customers, while 4,300 remained without electric.
Of those, 1,425 had power restored in Isle of Wight County and 2,200 in Southampton County, said Greg Cook, vice president of administration and finance for the Windsor utility.
Community Electric hope to have the majority of its customers back in service by Thursday night.
Electrical construction and right-of-way crews have been brought in from other cooperatives as well as independent contractors to aid in the restoration process. There are numerous reports of trees and limbs on power lines and several lines have fallen to the ground.
