It’s a worrisome state of affairs when common sense has to be legislated, but we have reached that degree.

Although it’s not a new law, the “Slow Down; Move Over” law is the subject of a public information campaign, reminding drivers to give consideration to police officers who have made traffic stops along the side of the road.

The law requires drivers to reduce their speeds and move the far lane of the highway, or as far as possible to avoid potential danger to the officer.

It’s good advice anyway, but now it’s law. Either way, it’s a good idea.
