FRANKLIN—Dr. Wynne LeGrow on Monday talked about his candidacy for Congress with The Tidewater News.

A Democrat from Emporia, LeGrow is running in the Fourth Congressional District against Republican incumbent Randy Forbes for the general election in November.

LeGrow, who moved to Emporia in 1979, has practiced medicine for 29 years. He said working as a physician has enabled him to know and understand people’s problems.

When asked about his thoughts on education, LeGrow said he supports a first-class public education system to prepare youth for an ever-changing workforce.

“I will not balance the budget at the expense of our children’s education,” he said.

As for healthcare, LeGrow said he believes the new healthcare bill is far from perfect but it is a good start toward reducing costs and expanding access.

“We will no longer deny health insurance for those with pre-existing conditions,” he said. “ The initiation of a public option or the introduction of a plan to buy into Medicare would encourage competition, further reduce the debt, and improve quality of care for all Americans.”
