Miles L. Carr, Sr.

Zuni – Miles Lee Carr, Sr., 81, widower of Hazel Duck Carr, passed away September 1, 2011. He was a lifelong resident of Southampton County and was a son of the late Bertie Corbitt and Arthur Clifton Carr, Sr. Mr. Carr was predeceased by two brothers Arthur, Jr. and Hugh Carr. He was a retired farmer and crop insurance adjuster and was a twenty year veteran of the Virginia National Guard. He was a charter member of both the Burdette Black Creek Ruritan Club and the Black Creek Hunt Club. Mr. Carr was a choir member, trustee, deacon and long time chairman of the cemetery committee of Black Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include his three sons, Miles L. Carr, Jr. and wife, Pam, of Como, NC, Sammy Carr and wife, Amy, of Zuni, and Robby Carr and wife, Dana, of Franklin, seven grandchildren, Clifton N. Carr, Martin R. Carr, Rachel Lassiter, Katie Johnson, Bob Carr, Dakota Lettieri, and D. J. Lettieri; and four great-grandchildren, Carleigh Renee Lassiter, Colton Miles Carr, Keira Catherine Lassiter and Emerson Blake Presson.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 4, 2011 in Black Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Greg Kitts and Rev. Willis Switzer officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 pm Saturday at Wright Funeral Home and suggests memorials be made to the Black Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 34163 Vicksville Road, Franklin, Va. 23851. www.wrightfuneralhome.org.
