FRANKLIN—Mrs. Barbara A. Mason of Walter’s Highway, Franklin, Virginia, departed this life August 29, 2011, while a patient in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

The Southampton County native was born November 26, 1954, to Linwood and Nellie Mason.

She was a member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church.

Barbara was preceded in death by her father and one brother, Carl Mason.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph Mason Jr.; one daughter, Tonya M. Everett (Christopher) of Ft. Meade, Maryland; one son, Joseph Mason III (Melissa) of Richmond, Virginia; mother, Nellie M. Harrell, Pendleton, North Carolina; sisters, Yetta Porter (Arthur) of Newsoms, Virginia, and Diane Harrell (Joe) of Pendleton, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Darius, Jalen, Dariun, Juwan, Keiara, Christopher and Cameron; one sister-in-law, Gwendolyn Mason; and nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives.

A celebration of love will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2011, at Mount Tabor Baptist Church, 28668 North Main Street, Newsoms, Virginia with the pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Cole delivering the message of comfort.

The committal and benediction will be in Southview Cemetery. On the day of service, her remains will rest in church for viewing by 11 a.m.

A traditional service with dignity will be conducted by Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, 224 S. Main St., Franklin.
