NORFOLK—Carol Elizabeth “Beth” Brinkley Fulke, 73, died Dec. 15, 2007, in Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center, Norfolk.

Mrs. Fulke died peacefully in her sleep after a lengthy battle against lung cancer. Her husband, Richard Fulke, was at her side.

She was born in Portsmouth and attended Wilson High School. She was the daughter of the late Caroline Thorn Stark and David Garland Brinkley.

She is survived by not only her husband, but also a brother, David Brinkley and wife Diane of Zuni, and sister, Barbara Lambert and husband James of Camden County, N.C.; an abundance of nieces, nephews, stepchildren and a host of friends in Tidewater and many parts of Tennessee.

She was a confirmed member of the Episcopal Church of the Advent in Norfolk. She served faithfully as a lay reader and as a past chairperson of the church food pantry. Beth touched the lives of many individuals every day of her life.

She never really complained of her illness and she always looked upon Christ to guide her. She was always soft-spoken, gentle, kind and ready to give to others any help she was able to render. Her faith in Christ was always there to help and be kind to others.

She spent many years living in Tennessee. While there, she worked as a civil service employee at Fort Campbell, Ky., and retired with more than 30 years of service.

She was employed as a budget analyst and as a computer specialist and instructor. Beth was given upon her retirement, an award of appreciation from the U.S. Army for her loyalty and professionalism.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. This service will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Advent in Norfolk.

A private burial ceremony will be conducted at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Donations can be made to The American Cancer Society.
