To the Editor:

Gwen Albers did a story on my son Ethan Walker not too long ago (“Toddler to undergo third heart surgery” June 29).

He has Hypoplastic Left Heart

Syndrome, a defect characterized by the partial or complete failure of the left side of the heart to develop — essentially leaving him with half of a heart.

Today (Wednesday) Ethan is getting a heart catheterization done at Duke. If all goes well and looks well, they will do his third heart surgery tomorrow morning.

She touched my heart by writing such of a heartfelt story on him. It was the first that actually caught the reality and truth as well as our hearts.

I’m so thankful that she did such of a wonderful job. She deserved to know that he is on his next journey.
